According to the statement, the sighting of the crescent moon officially marks the beginning of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.
“Reports of the sighting of the moon were received from various locations across the country,” the council confirmed.

Based on these verified reports, the Sultan has officially designated Wednesday, February 18, 2026, as the first day of Ramadan 1447 AH in Nigeria.
Ramadan is a sacred period for Muslims worldwide, observed through fasting from dawn until sunset. It is a time for increased prayer, reflection, and acts of charity, representing one of the five fundamental pillars of Islam.
