The Delta State Police Command has responded to the controversy surrounding the Ozoro Festival, refuting widespread allegations that it was a “rape festival.”
Police spokesperson Bright Edafe stated that initial investigations and interviews have not uncovered any official reports of rape.

“None of the four girls we spoke to yesterday reported being raped. As of now, we have no official complaints regarding rape. This was not a rape festival; it was an event organized by the chief priest aimed at praying for barren women to conceive,” Edafe explained.
He did, however, acknowledge that the event suffered from issues related to organization and communication. He noted that it was carried out without notifying key authorities, such as the traditional ruler of Ozoro Kingdom, the student union, the school administration, and the police.

Edafe emphasized that this lack of coordination resulted in disorder and increased the risk for female attendees. Consequently, the chief priest involved has been taken into custody.
While ruling out rape allegations at this time, Edafe admitted that instances of sexual assault were reported, calling the situation an “embarrassment” and condemning the events that took place.
