A United Nigeria Airlines aircraft has been damaged following a ground incident at Murtala Muhammed International Airport after equipment was displaced by a powerful jet blast from a nearby plane.
How the Incident Happened
The affected aircraft, an Embraer 190, had just arrived from Akanu Ibiam International Airport as Flight UN0503 and was being prepared for another scheduled departure.

According to the airline, the plane was parked at the domestic terminal (MM2) in an open bay between two other aircraft when the situation unfolded.
“United Nigeria Airlines wishes to inform its valued passengers and the general public of a ground incident involving one of its operating aircraft,” the airline said in a statement.
The incident occurred during simultaneous aircraft movements on the ramp.

“While preparations were ongoing to board passengers for another scheduled flight, a nearby aircraft… commenced taxiing, while another aircraft was executing a pushback onto the taxi line,” the statement explained.
Jet Blast Triggers Equipment Collision
The airline confirmed that the force generated by the taxiing aircraft caused unexpected disruption.
“The force of the jet blast displaced a baggage trolley belonging to a ground handling company, which subsequently made contact with the United Nigeria Airlines aircraft.”
The impact resulted in damage to sensitive external components, including an antenna and parts of the forward fuselage near the nose landing gear.

Following the incident, the airline immediately withdrew the aircraft from service in line with safety protocols.
“In adherence to our strict and uncompromising safety standards, the affected aircraft has been withdrawn from service for comprehensive inspection before returning to operations.”
The aircraft had been scheduled to operate Flight UN0500 later in the day, leading to disruptions for passengers.
