The U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, announced that the United States is actively partnering with the Nigerian government and its security forces to combat terrorism, especially in light of the rising violence against Christians in the region.

Rubio highlighted that this collaboration recently resulted in a significant operation that took down the second-highest-ranking ISIS leader who was operating in Nigeria.

Discussing the partnership, he mentioned, “Regarding Nigeria, there have been widespread concerns about the violence targeting Christians. We are currently engaged in counterterrorism efforts in collaboration with the Nigerian government and security personnel. Just a few weeks ago, we conducted a joint operation that successfully eliminated the number two leader of ISIS operating within the country, and our efforts are ongoing.”

He emphasized that the collaboration on counterterrorism between the U.S. and Nigeria continues actively.
