On Sunday, the Muslim Community of Oyo State congregated at the Yidi Praying Ground in Agodi, Ibadan, to pray for divine assistance in response to the increasing incidents of banditry, kidnappings, and other forms of crime affecting the state and the nation.
The prayer event, sanctioned by the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Abdulganiy Agbotomokekere, drew Islamic leaders, community figures, and worshippers from all 11 local government areas of Ibadanland.

Participants highlighted the necessity of unity among Nigerians, asserting that collaborative efforts and harmony across ethnic and political divisions are crucial in addressing security issues.
Guest speaker Sheikh Muyideen Onihantu remarked that the prayer aimed to seek Godβs help regarding insecurity that has troubled many citizens. He noted the broad representation of ethnic groups, including Yoruba, Hausa, Nupe, and Tapa communities at the gathering.
He emphasized that unity, belief, and support for government initiatives are vital in tackling insecurity, urging citizens to avoid divisive politics and tribalism.

Muslim Community Secretary-General Abidemi Siyanbade voiced concern over recent abductions in Oyo State and warned that the infiltration of banditry into the South-West must be addressed promptly.
He also made it clear that those engaged in kidnappings should not be regarded as representatives of Islam, characterizing them as individuals acting contrary to religious principles.
Siyanbade called on Nigerians to stay alert and support security forces by sharing timely information, reiterating that ensuring safety is a shared responsibility.
