Days after retired General died in kidnappers’ den, troops rescue wife with gunshot injuries

Troops from Operation FANSAN YANMA have successfully freed the wife of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar after a violent encounter with armed bandits in the Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.

An exclusive report by security analyst Zagazola Makama reveals that the rescue operation, part of Operation CLEAN SWEEP III, was initiated based on intelligence-driven offensives in Matazu and nearby areas following the abduction of the retired military officer and his family.

Military sources indicated that troops tracked the bandits to Tunga village during the search-and-rescue mission, where they engaged the criminals, compelling them to retreat under pressure.

During the encounter, the bandits reportedly shot Mrs. Abubakar before fleeing the scene.

“The bandits shot her and fled when we made contact at Tunga village. We have rescued Mrs. Abubakar. She is bleeding; we’ve administered first aid and are transporting her for urgent medical care,” a military source stated.

Sources confirmed that soldiers stabilized the victim on-site before moving her to a medical facility for additional treatment.

Military authorities also announced that operations in the area have been intensified, with troops actively pursuing the fleeing bandits and suspected leaders connected to the attack and previous abductions.

Security sources stated that Operation CLEAN SWEEP III will persist until all criminal hideouts in the region are eliminated, emphasizing that efforts to apprehend those responsible are ongoing.
