Entrepreneurship pays better than white-collar jobs — Gov Umo Eno urges Corps Members

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has urged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members assigned to the state to pursue entrepreneurship rather than depend on the dwindling availability of white-collar jobs after their service year.

Speaking at the NYSC Corps Employers’ Workshop in Uyo on Tuesday, where he was represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr. Ekerette Ekanem, Eno encouraged the corps members to utilize the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program to achieve financial independence and create employment opportunities.

“Becoming an entrepreneur and employer of labor today is more rewarding than holding a white-collar position. Corps members should strive to be job creators instead of just job seekers.

“In a society with a growing population and limited resources, I commend the SAED initiative, designed to help our youth become independent employers rather than merely seeking employment,” Eno stated.
