A coalition of civil society organisations has petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, calling for the immediate arrest, investigation and prosecution of social media personality Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), over alleged cyberstalking, criminal defamation and incitement.
The petition, dated July 21, 2026, was submitted by the Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity, and Justice and signed by its National Coordinator and Convener, Comrade James Okoronkwo.

Coalition Alleges Coordinated Online Campaign
In the petition, the coalition accused VeryDarkMan of using his social media platforms to launch what it described as “malicious” and “coordinated” attacks against AIG Jimoh.
The group alleged that the influencer had published defamatory content capable of undermining the integrity of the senior police officer and eroding public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.

According to the petition, the alleged actions go beyond online criticism and amount to offences under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, including cyberstalking, criminal defamation and conduct capable of causing a breach of public peace.
The coalition urged the police authorities to take immediate legal action against Otse.
Among its demands are: The immediate arrest of Martins Otse (VeryDarkMan) by the appropriate police authorities or the Nigeria Police National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC).
A comprehensive forensic investigation into his online activities, alleged collaborators and sponsors. His prompt prosecution before a court of competent jurisdiction.
The coalition argued that decisive action would serve as a deterrent against what it described as the reckless use of social media to attack public officials.
The petition further stated that the coalition had already undertaken media campaigns aimed at countering allegations made against the Assistant Inspector General of Police.
It maintained that while public rebuttals were necessary, they were insufficient without legal action.
The group described attacks on the office of a senior police officer as a matter with implications for public confidence in law enforcement and national security.
The coalition also pledged to continue supporting the police through advocacy and public engagement as the matter progresses.
“Our Coalition remains on standby to provide continuous media backing and civil society solidarity as you take this decisive legal action,” the petition stated.
As of the time of filing this report, Martins Otse (VeryDarkMan) had not publicly responded to the allegations contained in the petition, while the Nigeria Police Force had not announced any official action regarding the request.
