The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, has cautioned residents and visitors not to take photos or record videos of the Oloolu masquerade during the upcoming 2026 Oloolu Masquerade Festival.
The traditional leader noted that it is against the customs and traditions of Ibadanland for women to view the Oloolu masquerade, and that capturing images or videos of this sacred figure is also forbidden.

This warning was disclosed in a statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan, Ayoade Solomon Olugbemiga, prior to the annual festival’s start.
The 2026 Oloolu Festival is set to commence on Monday, July 27, with the traditional visit of the Oloolu masquerade to the Olubadan’s Palace at Oke-Aremo, where prayers will be offered for the king, members of the Olubadan-in-Council, residents, and for the overall peace and prosperity of Ibadanland.
The festival will feature a series of community visits throughout Ibadan, culminating on Thursday, July 30.

Oba Ladoja urged everyone to behave peacefully during the festivities and warned the Oloolu masquerade, other Egungun leaders, their followers, as well as individuals from other faiths and the public against any actions that could disrupt the peace.
He also appealed to security forces to remain alert and ensure the safety of people and property during the event.
The Oloolu Festival serves as the grand finale of the annual Ibadan Egungun Festival, which began on June 21, and is traditionally celebrated with prayers for peace, security, unity, and the ongoing development of Ibadanland.
