On Sunday, July 26, suspected political thugs raided a permanent voter’s card (PVC) distribution center in Okuku, the headquarters of the Odo-Otin Local Government Area, taking two packs of PVCs.
While INEC officials were distributing the cards at the Oyinlola DC Primary School in Ward 2, the thugs suddenly appeared, firing shots into the air, which frightened both residents and officials. They managed to grab two packs of cards and escaped before the police arrived.

Osun State Command spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the attack, stating that about ten armed individuals invaded the center, discharged gunfire, and stole three packs of PVCs before fleeing.

Ojelabi mentioned that the State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, condemned the assault and ordered a thorough investigation to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice.

In response, Oluwatoyin Babalola, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of INEC in the state, also denounced the attack. She stated that she was awaiting a detailed report on the incident and was uncertain about the exact number of PVCs taken by the assailants.
The Osun state governorship election is set to take place on August 15.
