The Oyo State Government has announced the initiation of mandatory waste bin requirements for all residential and commercial properties throughout the state, giving residents and property owners a month to adhere to this directive, with strict enforcement beginning on September 1, 2026.
The Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Ademola Aderinto, made this announcement during a press briefing at his office, highlighting that the initiative is part of the State Government’s ongoing efforts to enhance environmental sanitation and improve waste management in Oyo State.

Hon. Aderinto noted that each household, residential building, business facility, shopping center, and plaza must supply designated waste bins appropriately sized for the building, the number of occupants, and the amount of waste produced.

The Commissioner emphasized that all residents and business owners must only utilize government-approved Private Sector Participants (PSPs) for waste collection and disposal, warning that those who engage unauthorized waste contractors or dispose of waste improperly will be subject to legal consequences.
