Akinola Idowu, the Chairman of Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State, conducted an urgent inspection of Idera Market on Friday following the discovery of a corpse on the premises.
Accompanied by his deputy, Wale Fayemi, and other local government officials, Idowu addressed the pressing environmental and security issues plaguing the market. During the tour, he noted that sections of the market were being used as makeshift shelters by homeless individuals at night.

“The untidy surroundings and activities of miscreants have created security challenges for traders and residents,” Idowu stated, warning that such conditions could expose people to criminal activities if not addressed by market authorities and government agencies.
Condemning the incident, the chairman pledged comprehensive reforms focused on improving security, sanitation, and operational transparency. “The welfare and safety of market users remain our priority,” he affirmed.

Augustina Ikeh, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Abattoir Police Division, informed the council officials that she had immediately reported the incident to the Area Command and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai.
Ikeh clarified the market leaders’ involvement, explaining, “Adebowale and her male counterpart were invited as heads of the market to assist in the ongoing investigations.”
