Jimoh promises stronger security across Lagos, Ogun

Speaking during the event, Jimoh said his previous experience as Commissioner of Police in Lagos had given him valuable insight into the security challenges confronting both Lagos and Ogun.

He described the two states as strategically important to Nigeria because of their extensive commercial, industrial and economic activities.

According to him, Zone 2 Command has introduced measures aimed at reducing crime, protecting critical infrastructure and improving public safety.

He also promised to strengthen security along major routes and corridors connecting Lagos and Ogun through intelligence-led policing and coordinated operations.

The AIG stressed that maintaining security in the two states would require not only effective policing but also continuous cooperation between security agencies and members of the public.

Adewole, while presenting the award, said Jimoh was being recognised for his leadership, professionalism and commitment to accountability-driven policing.

He cited several achievements associated with Jimoh’s tenure as Lagos Commissioner of Police and his current role as AIG.

According to Adewole, more than 115 stolen vehicles were recovered during the period, while suspected cult members were also prosecuted.

He further pointed to the absence of major security incidents during significant festive celebrations under Jimoh’s watch.

The deployment of 250 personnel and 50 tactical vehicles to strategic locations, alongside rapid responses to criminal incidents across parts of Lagos, was also listed among the reasons for the award.

Responding, Jimoh dedicated the recognition to the officers and men serving under his command.

“This award is a special appreciation for the integrity and hard work of our officers. It is a recognition of what we have been doing, but we must not allow the award to get into our heads. Rather, it should support and encourage us to do more for the people we are serving,” he said.

The AIG emphasised that the recognition should serve as motivation for the police to continue improving their service to Nigerians.

AIG urges residents to keep supporting police

Jimoh commended residents of Lagos and Ogun for their cooperation with the police and other security agencies.

He noted that information provided by members of the public has played an important role in helping security personnel prevent and detect criminal activities.

However, he stressed that public cooperation should not mean silence when police officers fail to meet expected standards.

The AIG encouraged residents to report misconduct and make constructive complaints whenever they encounter unacceptable behaviour from police personnel.

“Wherever you notice any misconduct or activities of the police that you are not satisfied with, our doors are widely open for complaints to be made and properly addressed,” Jimoh said.

He also advised members of the public with complaints against police officers, including senior officers, to use the appropriate channels to submit petitions for investigation.

The Zone 2 boss said the Nigeria Police Force was placing greater emphasis on partnerships with communities as part of efforts to improve public confidence.

He said Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu had introduced initiatives focused on strengthening police-community relationships, improving training and boosting confidence in the force.

Jimoh assured residents that Zone 2 would continue to engage stakeholders through community policing initiatives and other partnership programmes.

The approach, he said, would enable the police to better understand security concerns within communities while allowing residents to play a more active role in preventing crime.

Segalink praises Jimoh’s leadership

Human rights activist Segun Awosanya, popularly known as Segalink, also commended Jimoh, describing him as deserving of the recognition.

Awosanya attributed the relative peace experienced in Lagos to a combination of teamwork, intelligence-led policing and sustained engagement with communities.

He noted that the police remain a reflection of the wider society and argued that accountability should apply to every member of the force regardless of rank.

According to him, the police have internal mechanisms through which allegations of misconduct can be addressed.
