About the Wema Bank Bankers-in-Training Graduate Trainee Program
The Wema Bank Bankers-in-Training Graduate Trainee Program is a specialised entry-level development initiative created for young graduates interested in building careers in banking, sales and relationship management.
The programme equips participants with foundational and advanced skills required to work in a commercial banking environment.
Training covers customer acquisition, product knowledge, sales, financial solutions and relationship management, while also providing participants with an understanding of Commercial, Corporate, Retail and SME Banking.
The programme follows a regional training structure, with training and deployment taking place across selected locations in Nigeria.
How the Graduate Trainee Program Works
The programme follows a three-stage career development structure.
Phase 1: Classroom Training
Successful candidates will begin with an intensive structured classroom training programme covering important areas of banking and financial services.
Training includes:
- Banking operations
- Financial products and services
- Credit analysis
- Sales and business development
- Customer acquisition
- Relationship management

- Corporate banking

Phase 3: Full Deployment
After successfully completing the training and field immersion stages, participants will progress to full deployment, transitioning towards Relationship Manager roles within Wema Bank.
Post-Training Responsibilities
Following successful completion of the classroom training, Graduate Trainees will be expected to:
- Execute data-driven sales strategies to acquire new customers.
- Contribute to the growth of branch deposit and loan portfolios.
- Conduct local market research to identify new business opportunities.
- Monitor competitor offerings and relevant industry trends.
- Prospect for customers and manage sales pipelines.
- Work towards and exceed assigned monthly sales targets.
- Provide end-to-end support to customers.
- Resolve customer inquiries and complaints promptly.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers.
- Collaborate with credit and risk teams on preliminary loan assessments.
- Ensure customer and loan documentation meets regulatory and internal requirements.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Hold a minimum of a Second Class Upper degree or equivalent.
- Have graduated from an accredited university.
- Have studied a business or social science-related discipline.
- Have at least five O’Level credits, including Mathematics and English, in WAEC, NECO or an equivalent examination.
- Be 26 years old or younger at the time of application.
- Have completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
- Possess a valid NYSC discharge certificate.
- Have a strong interest in sales, client management and financial solutions.
- Have an interest in building a career in sales and relationship management within the banking industry.
