She appealed to residents who complained about delays in waste evacuation, explaining that waste trucks sometimes spend two to three days queuing at landfill sites before returning to collect more waste.

The First Lady said the state government was working on new strategies to improve waste management and evacuation across Lagos. She also urged residents to separate recyclable materials from other waste at the point of generation.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Engr. Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu, also commended the growing participation, saying residents were increasingly taking responsibility for cleaning their homes and streets.

Meanwhile, the Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro, who monitored the exercise on Lagos Mainland, urged residents to make environmental cleanliness a daily responsibility rather than waiting for government monitoring teams.

Agoro said participation had improved after more than six months of the exercise but stressed that residents should begin cleaning their surroundings before officials arrive.

He also commended the Lagos Mainland council administration for its advocacy and mobilisation efforts, while urging residents to sustain the gains recorded.
