Lekki Property Dispute: Skyview Breaks Silence, Defends AIG Jimoh

Skyview Properties Limited has rejected allegations against Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Olohundare Moshood Jimoh over a disputed property at Plot 37, Block 77, Lekki Peninsula Scheme I, Lagos, describing the claims as a smear campaign aimed at discrediting the police officer and the company.

The Lagos-based real estate firm also reaffirmed its claim to legal ownership of the property, insisting that its position is backed by a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O), conveyance documents and a subsisting judgement of the Lagos State High Court.

In a statement issued by Mr Daniel Itua, Skyview dismissed claims by Alhaji Akeem Osuolale Ogunseye that he has a legal interest in the property through a Certificate of Occupancy issued in the name of Samuel Alao Ajibode.

The company maintained that it acquired the property in 2008 from an individual who had allegedly purchased it from Ajibode and received the relevant title documents, including the C of O and a Deed of Conveyance executed by the former owner.

According to Skyview, it subsequently paid adequate consideration for the property and also made a separate payment to Ajibode for the execution of another Deed of Conveyance in its favour.

Skyview cites Lagos High Court judgement

The company said its ownership claim was affirmed by a Lagos State High Court judgement delivered on June 30, 2025, by Justice K.A. Jose in Suit No. LD/1006CMW/2015.

It particularly referenced the court’s order of perpetual injunction restraining the first defendant, his agents and privies from further trespassing on the property and harassing the claimant.

Skyview said it only returned to the property to commence development after the judgement was delivered, arguing that the court’s decision provided the legal basis for its actions.

The company also maintained that there was no court order restraining it from developing the property, adding that its proposed development had received approval from the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Development.

It further argued that claims of a pending appeal would not automatically prevent it from proceeding with development in the absence of an order staying the execution of the judgement.

Firm defends AIG Jimoh’s intervention

Addressing allegations involving AIG Jimoh, Skyview said the police officer had no personal or business interest in the disputed land.

According to the company, Jimoh’s involvement dated back to his tenure as Commissioner of Police in Lagos, when the firm reported an alleged attack on its workers at the property.

Skyview said the then police commissioner directed both parties to maintain peace and await the court’s determination of the dispute, rather than allowing the police to intervene in a matter already before the court.

The company insisted that the intervention was aimed at preventing a breakdown of law and order and should not be interpreted as support for either party.

In its words, “The recent campaign of blackmail against AIG Jimoh and Skyview is a mere attempt to whip up public sentiment by a person who has no right in law and in fact to the property but has resorted to self-help and violence to scare our workers from the property. We will not succumb to the blackmail.”

Company alleges attack on workers, rejects N50m demand

Skyview further alleged that Ogunseye and individuals accompanying him attempted to gain access to the property by force, disrupting its workers and construction activities.

The firm claimed that it initially chose legal channels by approaching the police and subsequently instituting court proceedings instead of resorting to self-help.

It also alleged that Ajibode sold the property in 1992 before returning years later with a demand for N50 million, which the company described as an attempt to extort money from it.

According to Skyview, Ogunseye became involved in the dispute after the company rejected the alleged demand, with the firm accusing him of mobilising individuals to enter the property forcibly.

The company also claimed that Ajibode had relocated to the United States and was using Ogunseye to pursue claims over the land.

These allegations were contained in the company’s statement and have not been independently established.

Skyview urges media to verify claims

The real estate firm called on journalists and media organisations to examine relevant court documents and property records before publishing claims concerning the disputed land.

It urged the press to avoid amplifying allegations that could undermine the rule of law, insisting that its ownership position was supported by legal documentation and the High Court judgement.

The dispute has attracted public attention following allegations made against AIG Jimoh over his alleged involvement in the demolition of a property in Lekki.

However, Skyview maintained that the police officer’s intervention was limited to maintaining peace while the legal dispute was before the court.

The company reiterated that it would not be intimidated by what it described as attempts to discredit its ownership claim and interfere with its plans to develop the property.
