In light of the recent rise in fire incidents in major marketplaces throughout Lagos State, the Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations has launched a comprehensive statewide awareness and advocacy program to enhance fire safety in markets and motor parks.
An official announcement from the state government shared on X (formerly Twitter) highlighted that the Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Mr. Olugbenga Oyerinde, stressed the need for collective responsibility in preventing fire outbreaks, noting that it is not solely the government’s duty to ensure preparedness.

He outlined that this initiative aims to educate traders, transport operators, and market leaders on preventative measures, emergency response plans, and safe practices regarding electrical appliances and other fire-sensitive materials.
“By bringing this campaign directly to areas of high vulnerability, the Ministry aims to reduce risks, protect livelihood, and safeguard lives, and property”, he said.
The initial phase of the program will include Roadshows and Sensitisation activities at markets and motor parks in locations such as Ketu, Agege, Ile Epo, Iyana Ipaja, Ipodo, Arena, and Oshodi, aimed at raising awareness and promoting fire safety protocols.
