The Super Eagles had reached the quarter-finals of the tournament following an impressive victory over Algeria.

In the build-up to the semi-final clash against host nation Morocco, Rabiu publicly promised a $500,000 reward should Nigeria reach the final, alongside an additional $50,000 for every goal scored in the match.

However, Nigeria’s AFCON dream was cut short on Wednesday night after a tense encounter in Rabat ended 0–0 after extra time, with Morocco eventually triumphing 4–2 on penalties.

Despite the disappointing outcome, Rabiu announced that he would still honour the full $500,000 pledge, praising the players for their commitment and fighting spirit throughout the tournament.

Taking to social media after the match, the BUA Group chairman applauded the team’s effort and resilience.

“You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage and determination on the pitch. Though it wasn’t meant to be this time, you have made every Nigerian proud,” Rabiu wrote.

He emphasised that success is not measured solely by trophies, noting that the Super Eagles’ unity, discipline, and dedication have brought pride and joy to millions of Nigerians at home and abroad.

“As a token of appreciation for your remarkable journey and effort, I am still going ahead to fulfill the pledge of $500,000 USD,” he stated, emphasising that the reward was in recognition of the team’s hard work and national service.

Rabiu concluded with a message of encouragement, urging the players to remain optimistic and focused on future challenges.

“Keep your heads high, Super Eagles. Nigeria will always be proud of you, and we believe in your future victories.”
