Amusan, the reigning world record holder in the 100m hurdles, claimed silver after finishing second behind Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji in a thrilling final.

“A source of national pride”

In a statement released on Wednesday, President Tinubu lauded Amusan for her perseverance, resilience, and dedication to flying Nigeria’s flag high on the global stage.

“Tobi has once again proven that with hard work and unyielding drive, no height is insurmountable. Her success is a source of national pride,” the President said.

Tinubu added that Amusan’s consistency at the top level of athletics remains an inspiration to millions of Nigerians, especially the younger generation aspiring to excel in sports.

Assurances of government support

The President further wished Amusan continued success in her career while assuring her and other Nigerian athletes of his administration’s commitment to sports development and athlete welfare.
