The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed a $100,000 fine on the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) following a series of disciplinary breaches during and after Algeria’s heated Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) encounter against Nigeria.
The sanctions, announced after CAF’s disciplinary review, cover player misconduct, post-match behavior, fan violence, security failures, and media-related incidents.

CAF released a detailed breakdown outlining how the total fine was calculated: $5,000 – Players’ behavior leading to multiple bookings.

$25,000 – Misconduct by some players and officials after the match.
$5,000 – Use of flares by supporters. $5,000 – Throwing of objects by fans. $10,000 – Failure to comply with CAF security regulations.
$50,000 – Misconduct involving fans and some accredited media personnel
Belghali suspended, sanction extends into 2027 Qualifiers
In addition to the financial penalty, Algeria defender Rafik Belghali has been handed a four-match suspension for his role in the incidents.
