A tragic incident unfolded at the bustling Badagry Roundabout in Lagos on Monday morning when a cement truck fatally struck a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officer and two commercial motorcyclists.
The collision, which occurred at approximately 9 a.m., resulted in the immediate deaths of all three individuals. Eyewitnesses reported that the truck was traveling at high speed as it neared the junction before the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to swerve and hit the victims.

An onlooker, who wished to remain anonymous, described the scene: “The LASTMA officer was directing traffic when the truck suddenly lost control and crushed him. The two motorcyclists were also hit while they were waiting for passengers.”
The crash led to significant traffic congestion in the area. A police source, not authorized to speak publicly, confirmed that additional LASTMA officials were dispatched to the scene, along with officers from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to manage the situation.

Authorities confirmed that the truck driver was apprehended at the scene and taken into police custody. The remains of the deceased were transported to a local hospital mortuary, and the truck was impounded for further investigation.
Yusuf Sanni, the unit commander for the FRSC, verified the incident and the driver’s arrest. “The driver has been taken to Badagry Police Station,” Sanni stated, attributing the crash to a loss of control and advising motorists to steer clear of the area.
CSP Folajimi Agosile, the Divisional Police Officer of Badagry Police Station, also confirmed the driver’s detention. “He will be arraigned at the Chief Magistrates’ Court once investigations are concluded,” Agosile said.

When contacted for a statement, LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq acknowledged the query but had not provided an official response by the time of this report.
This incident follows another recent tragedy, occurring just three days after LASTMA reported a separate fatal road accident at Ekoro Junction, near Abule-Egba, which resulted in one death and four injuries.
