During the meeting, Friday Godonu, the individual the officers were pursuing, recounted his close call with gunfire after helping identify community members returning from a meeting. He revealed that the officers later tracked him to his home, where they assaulted him and fired shots, injuring Mrs. Hunsa, who is currently hospitalized.
The Council’s Legal Adviser raised additional issues, including a complaint that Immigration officers had previously dismissed an official letter from the council regarding the event.
Comptroller Adoyi expressed the Service’s regret and confirmed that internal disciplinary measures are being initiated. He also mentioned that the NIS team had visited Mrs. Hunsa in the hospital with intentions to provide support items, but were advised to first consult with the Council Chairman.
