The empowerment initiative, which commenced on 17th November, was implemented in four strategic phases, with ₦25 million disbursed in each phase to 250 beneficiaries.
In total, 1,000 residents across Kosofe’s seven wards benefited from the scheme.
According to Barrister Ogunlewe, the programme was designed not as an act of charity but as a deliberate effort to strengthen economic capacity and self-reliance among residents, especially young people.
The first phase of the scheme targeted the general public across the seven wards, providing direct financial support to households.
The second phase, held on 25th November, focused on artisans and tradesmen whose skills contribute significantly to the local economy.
The third phase, which took place on 8th December, was dedicated to widows.
The final phase was reserved for youths, a decision that was warmly received by youth leaders across the local government.
Reacting on behalf of the youth, NYCN Kosofe Coordinator, disclosed that youths were formally invited to participate in the programme and guided through a transparent selection process.

“The chairman called the youths to come for empowerment. We were pre-informed that the youths would be the last phase. We were given forms to fill out to qualify as beneficiaries, and the voters’ card was used as the major means of identification,” she said.
She explained that each beneficiary received ₦100,000 to either start a small business or strengthen an existing one, noting that the initiative would have a lasting impact on youth entrepreneurship and economic independence in Kosofe.
“The ₦100,000 is to assist youths in starting something meaningful or to support those already in business. We are also hopeful because we have been told that the next phase will be even bigger,” she added.
Comrade Bolanle, on behalf of the National Youth Council of Nigeria and youths in Kosofe, expressed appreciation to Barrister Ogunlewe for his consistent support and youth-friendly policies.

“On behalf of the youths in Kosofe, we sincerely appreciate the chairman, Hon. Ogunlewe, for his constant support in every form. This empowerment has shown that the voices and needs of young people truly matter in this administration,” she said.
The NYCN reaffirmed its readiness to continue partnering with the local government to promote youth development, economic empowerment, and grassroots participation in governance across the Kosofe Local Government Area.
