Ramadan: Kaduna Church provides food supplies to Muslims

The Church of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry, located in Sabon Tasha, Kaduna, has donated bags of rice, maize, and other food items to Muslims, Tsangaya Islamic schools, and some internally displaced persons (IDPs) in anticipation of the Ramadan fast.

At the Kano Road Central Mosque in Kaduna, the church’s General Overseer, Yohanna Buru, led the distribution, emphasizing that the initiative aims to promote peace and enhance interfaith harmony in the region.

Buru noted that for more than 20 years, the church has been supporting disadvantaged Muslims and Tsangaya schools across five northern states by supplying food to assist with the 30-day Ramadan fasting period.

In addition to rice and maize, the church also provides prayer mats and plastic kettles annually, encouraging recipients to use this time to pray for peace, stability, and an end to insecurity and economic difficulties in the country.

He revealed that due to rising food prices, the church organized a seven-day awareness campaign involving about 50 volunteer pastors and imams to encourage traders to lower food item prices during Ramadan.

Furthermore, Buru mentioned that the ministry helps facilitate the release of some Muslim inmates each year so they can spend the fasting period with their families.

He acknowledged the contributions of a Muslim philanthropist, Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani, who supports widows and orphans during Christmas and New Year festivities, describing this gesture as a sign of mutual respect between different faiths.

He extended wishes for a peaceful Ramadan to Muslims and urged collective prayers for national unity.

Mallam Hassan Lawal, leader of the Association of Persons with Disabilities in Kaduna State, praised the church for its ongoing support and encouraged wealthy Muslims to assist the underprivileged during the fasting season.

Similarly, Mallam Tukur Zubairu, state leader of the Visually Impaired Association, highlighted the church’s consistent provision of food grains to its members over the years, praying for divine blessings for those involved in the efforts.

Imam Ibrahim Musa, representing the Tsangaya schools, expressed gratitude for the intervention and urged well-meaning Nigerians to follow this example.

In addition, Imam Ilyasu, Murshid of Jama’atu Nasril Islam, commended the initiative and encouraged wealthy Muslims to fulfill their zakat obligations to the poor, especially during Ramadan.
