Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday yielded his official seat to Miss Esther Etiyemonu, the overall winner of the 21st Edition of the Lagos State Spelling Bee Competition and this year’s One-Day Governor.
Etiyemonu, a pupil of Lagos State Senior Model College in Igbokuta, Imota (Lagos Education District II), earned the prestigious title after emerging victorious in the secondary school category of the competition, which concluded in December 2025.

She was presented with a N1 million star prize for her outstanding performance.

The moment, captured in a video circulating widely on social media, shows Governor Sanwo-Olu warmly inviting the young student to take his place at the governor’s desk.
Accompanying Etiyemonu were her One-Day Deputy Governor, Miss Dorcas Awoyemi (second-place finisher), and One-Day Secretary to the State Government, Miss Jumai Olaide Salami (third-place finisher).

The trio spent the day visiting key government officials, including the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun; and the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro.

During her engagements, the One-Day Governor commended Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration for significant strides in education, transportation, security, and infrastructure. She urged continued support for student welfare and called on her peers to remain focused and studious.
