Traffic looms as another crash occurs on Otedola Bridge

 

Barely 24 hours after a multiple-truck crash on Kara Bridge claimed several lives and caused major gridlock along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, another road accident occurred on Friday, involving a 14-tyre truck and a commercial bus on the Otedola Bridge, inward the Lagos Secretariat.

The incident, which led to yet another round of traffic congestion, was confirmed in a statement released by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) through its official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

Truck Collides with Commercial Bus

According to LASTMA, the accident occurred when a 14-tyre tipper truck loaded with granite collided with an interstate commercial Mazda bus, forcing the truck into the road barrier.

The impact caused the vehicle’s granite load to spill across the expressway, obstructing part of the road opposite Capital Oil, just before the Otedola Bridge section.

The agency’s statement read, “A 14-tyre tipper conveying granite had a collision with an inter-state commercial Mazda bus. The tipper ran into the barrier and spilled its contents on the road opposite Capital Oil, just before the expressway on Otedola Bridge inward Secretariat. There is no significant effect on traffic flow at the moment.”

Traffic Management and Recovery Efforts

LASTMA confirmed that recovery efforts were ongoing, with a tow truck expected to arrive at the scene to remove the damaged vehicles. Officials were also deployed to control traffic and ensure safety for motorists navigating the affected section.

“Our men are on the ground to manage movement and ensure no further disruption. Recovery is in progress,” the agency said.

Friday’s crash comes barely a day after another fatal multi-truck collision on Kara Bridge, outward Lagos, which reportedly claimed at least eight lives and resulted in a massive traffic backlog stretching through Berger and adjoining routes.

The recurrence of such heavy-vehicle crashes on major Lagos expressways has raised fresh safety concerns among commuters and residents.

Road users have continued to call for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, regular vehicle inspections, and dedicated truck lanes to curb accidents involving heavy-duty vehicles.
