A total of 2,010 widows from the five wards of Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have benefited from the September edition of the RBK Monthly Free Food Distribution Programme.

The food distribution, held at the Lekki LCDA Secretariat, was coordinated by the Department of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) as part of the council’s ongoing social support initiatives for vulnerable residents.

The programme is being implemented under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali (RBK), as the council continues its monthly intervention aimed at providing immediate support to residents facing economic difficulties.

Kasali Links Programme to Increased Government Resources

Speaking during the distribution, Kasali said the food support programme, alongside other social interventions and development projects, was being strengthened by increased resources available to governments at the grassroots following the removal of the fuel subsidy.

According to him, the development is part of the wider impact of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which, he said, has created additional opportunities for governments at different levels to expand support and development programmes.

The chairman stressed that the monthly food distribution should not be viewed solely as a poverty alleviation programme.

Rather, he described it as a deliberate intervention designed to provide immediate relief, succour and dignity to residents who require support.

Food Support and Infrastructure Development

Beyond the food distribution, the event also offered beneficiaries an opportunity to see some of the ongoing projects within the council area as they departed the Secretariat.

The development projects, according to the council, reflect an approach that combines immediate social intervention with longer-term investment in infrastructure and public services.

The administration said its support for vulnerable residents is being pursued alongside investments in areas such as healthcare, infrastructure and other projects intended to provide lasting benefits to communities across Lekki LCDA.

Monthly Intervention Continues

The September distribution forms part of the council’s continuing monthly food support programme, with beneficiaries drawn from the five wards within the LCDA.

The initiative is targeted at providing practical assistance to residents considered vulnerable while complementing other social and development programmes being implemented by the council.

The council said the intervention is intended to provide immediate relief while its broader development projects address longer-term community needs.
