The statement detailed that Tunmise exited the ongoing Chancellor’s Cup match after reporting leg pain and exhaustion. His situation deteriorated rapidly as he began experiencing breathing difficulties, prompting fellow students to transport him to the university’s medical center.

There, medical staff attempted to revive him with CPR and an automated external defibrillator (AED), but these efforts were not successful. The university management was present during the incident and offered support to the family.

However, some students disputed this narrative, asserting that vital medical equipment like oxygen and nebulizers were missing, and alleging that prayers took precedence over immediate medical intervention. The Vice-Chancellor insisted that there was no lack of personnel or equipment.

Additionally, a statement from the family of the deceased expressed concerns regarding inconsistencies between the university’s account and eyewitness testimonies.

They criticized the rapid conclusions drawn without an independent investigation and highlighted unresolved matters such as the sequence of events, Tunmise’s condition upon receiving help, and the adequacy of the medical response.

The family stated that they are reviewing medical records and eyewitness accounts while seeking an independent evaluation, noting a lack of a clear medical explanation thus far.

They emphasized their dedication to uncovering the truth and ensured they were willing to take necessary actions to fully comprehend the circumstances, calling for transparency from all involved parties.
