If Nigeria govt cannot defend Northern Christians, they should defend themselves — Pastor David Ibiyeomie

Pastor David Ibiyeomie, the founder of Salvation Ministries, has sparked considerable debate with his remarks about the escalating insecurity in Nigeria, especially related to attacks on Christians in the northern part of the country.

In a recent sermon, Pastor Ibiyeomie voiced his alarm over Nigeria’s security crisis, noting the stark contrast with advancements in technology seen around the world. He criticized Nigeria for being preoccupied with violence, particularly the killing of Christians, while other nations are focusing on innovation.

He stated, “Look, they are exploring space; I saw that just yesterday. Meanwhile, Nigeria is engaged in kidnappings and the murder of Christians in the north. While the world is aiming for space, we are dealing with genocide against Christians.”

The pastor called on Nigerians to take a stand against the ongoing violence, emphasizing that remaining silent is no longer an option.

“This must end in our country! Stop! We need to put a stop to it. If no one else is speaking up, we have to. We cannot continue allowing Christians in the north to be killed. It’s time to wake up. Christians in the north, it’s time to awaken.”

Using Israel as a reference point, Pastor Ibiyeomie urged Christians to take charge of their own safety if the government is unable to protect them.

“Israel is a small nation, and they didn’t let Arabs harm them. Don’t wait for others to act. If the government won’t protect you, then defend yourselves, Christians in the north. They cannot defend you. Israel didn’t wait for anyone; they took matters into their own hands.”

To emphasize the need for readiness, he issued a direct call to action: “Get a walking stick! Yes, I’m serious—get a  walking stick!”
