The event, held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, in Orishigun, Ketu, brought together Islamic scholars, security officials, students, and residents for faith-based discussions and the presentation of prizes to winners of a Qur’an recitation competition.

In his welcome address, the Convener, Dr. Sulaiman Ibrahim Algamawi, encouraged Muslims to use Ramadan as a period of reflection and purposeful living.

“Ramadan is a sacred month prescribed for believers. It is the month in which the Qur’an was revealed as guidance for mankind,” he said.
Algamawi explained that the lecture initiative was conceived to promote faith-based values and moral uprightness, emphasising that every action taken by the faithful should align with the teachings of Allah and the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
“Every step we take must have a clear purpose and direction in line with our faith,” he added.

The lecture featured two key presentations. Barrister Abu-bakr Alao Olanrewaju of Abu Sidqqy Law Firm delivered a lecture titled: “How to Police Your Heart with Ramadan.”
He focused on self-discipline, spiritual purification, and the importance of guarding one’s thoughts and actions during the holy month.
Inspector Muhammad Ndagi of the Alapere Police Station, Area H Command, Lagos, spoke on: “Is Police Your Friend?”
In his address, Inspector Ndagi stressed the importance of cooperation between the public and law enforcement agencies.

“The public needs to inform the police. Without such information, there is no way we can discharge our duties perfectly,” he said.
He assured attendees that informants’ identities would be protected and reaffirmed the police’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
“Stronger collaboration between citizens and security agencies is essential for safer communities,” he added.
Qur’an Recitation Competition Winners
The event also celebrated young talents through a Qur’an recitation competition involving 12 Arabic schools.

Madrasat Tariqul Khayr emerged first, receiving ₦100,000. Al-Manial Sofi Arabic School secured second place with ₦50,000. Markaz Nuri Li Talimu Arabi Al-Islamic finished third, earning ₦30,000. Other participating schools received ₦5,000 consolation prizes, certificates of participation, and a ₦10,000 punctuality award.
