Teacher suspended in Kebbi for refusing ramadan palliative, speaking out against govt

A teacher in Kebbi State, Abduljalal Usman, has been suspended without pay for three months after reportedly refusing to accept a Ramadan aid package and criticizing the government’s poor governance.

Sources revealed that Usman rejected “one mudu of maize and one mudu of millet” provided by the state as part of a relief effort for the fasting season.

His refusal and subsequent remarks about the initiative prompted disciplinary action from authorities under Governor Nasir Idris. The suspension notice issued by the Dandi Local Government Education Authority cited “negligence of duty,” though it did not clarify what specific action constituted this negligence.

Critics argue that Usman is being penalized for declining the Ramadan aid and voicing his concerns about governmental practices. One source remarked, “Under Nasir Idris, the Kebbi State Government is now punishing teachers for rejecting humiliation and speaking out against the weaponization of poverty.”

Observers have condemned the action, labeling it as “biased, incompetent, and a clear abuse of power,” and asserting that teachers should not face repercussions for expressing their opinions. Many also highlighted the irony that Governor Idris was once an educator himself.
