Lagos Mobile Court convicts 6 motorists for traffic violations in Ikorodu

A Lagos State mobile court has convicted six individuals for various traffic offences following an enforcement operation in the Ikorodu area on Tuesday.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Lagos State Ministry of Justice confirmed that eight motorists were arraigned for violating the state’s Transport Sector Reform Law and other traffic regulations. The court delivered its judgments after reviewing each case.

“After reviewing the cases, the Court delivered its judgments in accordance with the applicable laws,” the ministry stated.

The primary offences included driving against the flow of traffic (one-way) and making illegal U-turns. The ministry provided a detailed list of the offenders and the court’s rulings.

Among those convicted were Omowunmi Babatunde, Olufemi Opadeji, Alabi Akinoluwa, Onwah Ogheneweke, and Ajimokunola Temitayo. They were found guilty of driving against traffic and making illegal U-turns. The standard penalty for these offences was a ₦200,000 fine for the first count and a ₦20,000 fine or one month of community service for the second.

The case of Onasanya Daniel, who faced similar charges, was adjourned for trial until April 21, 2026. Another motorist, Olayemi Oluwabamigbe, pleaded guilty to one charge while contesting another, with the trial set to continue on May 5, 2026.

One driver, Lawal Abdulwasiu, faced multiple charges, including driving one-way, making an illegal U-turn, breach of peace, obstruction, and resisting enforcement officers. The court found him guilty on all counts and scheduled his sentencing for March 24, 2026.

The prosecution team was led by Olufemi Adekunle and Oluwabusola Omotunde, representing the state.

The Ministry of Justice highlighted the role of the mobile court system, describing it as “a vital mechanism for the prompt dispensation of justice in traffic-related offences across the State.”

The ministry also issued a warning to all road users: “Motorists are therefore advised to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations and conduct themselves responsibly on the roads, as offenders will continue to face prosecution under the law.”
