Previously known as MKO Abiola Stadium, the facility underwent extensive upgrades and expansion, leading to its reclassification as a full-fledged sports complex.

This transformation aligns with the administration’s broader vision of repositioning Ogun State as a leading destination for sports development in Nigeria.

The renovation delivered world-class facilities, including a hybrid football pitch, a standard tartan athletics track, a 50-metre Olympic-size swimming pool, and multiple courts for basketball, tennis, and handball. Additional features such as floodlighting, digital scoreboards, upgraded dressing rooms, and improved media and VIP sections have further elevated the complex to international standards.

Beyond infrastructure, the upgraded complex has significantly boosted sports development by providing a conducive environment for training, talent discovery, and competition. It has also strengthened Ogun State’s capacity to host major sporting events, while stimulating sports tourism and economic activity within the state.
