Obi expressed concern over the alleged arrest, warning about possible threats to freedom of expression and political activity in the country.
In a video released soon after these allegations emerged, Umar clarified that he was not arrested or detained, but rather invited for questioning by the security service.
“I want to set the record straight. I was not detained by the DSS. I was invited for questioning, fully cooperated, and was then allowed to leave. I am safe and in good health,” he stated.

Umar also encouraged citizens to express their political concerns through democratic means, notably by participating in elections.
“The solution is straightforward: register, vote, and elect better leaders when the opportunity arises,” he advised.
