We will deploy cameras to tackle insecurity in Jos, says Bosun Tijani

Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, announced plans to implement artificial intelligence-based security cameras in Jos and throughout Plateau State to enhance security and curb persistent violence.

During a meeting with the Plateau State government, Tijani shared his personal connection to the initiative, reflecting on his time as a student in Jos during the 2001 crisis, when his family suffered losses. β€œHaving lost properties and friends during that period, it feels like a privilege to serve under your leadership,” he remarked.

The minister mentioned having productive discussions with the state governor and arrived in Jos with his technical team to collaborate with local authorities. The initiative aims to bolster digital infrastructure while establishing a network of AI-enabled surveillance cameras starting with the Jos area.

Tijani reassured residents that the project is actionable and referenced the successful implementation of similar security technologies in Lagos and Enugu. He expressed distress over the ongoing security issues in Jos and committed his ministry’s resources to foster lasting peace and safety in Plateau State, stating, β€œWe will partner with the government to enhance our digital infrastructure and deploy a network of AI security cameras across the state, beginning with Jos.”
