Alaafin attribute absence from public events to health issues, affirms no dispute with Governor Makinde 

The Alaafin of Oyo, Akeem Owoade, has put to rest rumors about a discord between him and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, as well as the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, asserting that their relationships are amicable.

In an interview with reporters in Oyo town, the monarch clarified that there is no misunderstanding with the governor, emphasizing that any potential issues would be addressed privately, according to the Nigerian Tribune.

“I have no grievances with the government. The governor has been very supportive. If any matters arise, I will speak to him directly,” he stated.

Oba Owoade also refuted claims of tensions with the Olubadan, highlighting the mutual respect and understanding between the two traditional leaders.

“My relationship with the Olubadan is friendly. There is no miscommunication,” he affirmed.

He attributed the circulation of such rumors to bloggers and attention-seekers, indicating that misleading stories often surround notable traditional institutions.

Regarding his recent absence from public events, the Alaafin explained that he has been unwell but plans to return to full engagement once he recovers completely.

He also clarified an incident that sparked speculation about a perceived lack of acknowledgment during a handshake with the Olubadan, stating it was unintentional and was subsequently resolved.

“I reached out to shake his hand, but he later clarified that he hadn’t noticed it. I don’t consider it an offense. We spoke afterward and met again. There is no problem,” he said.

Oba Owoade expressed gratitude to the media for their support, viewing journalists as allies in progress.

He announced that preparations are in place for his birthday celebration on July 18, where three individuals will be bestowed with chieftaincy titles.

On development initiatives, the monarch revealed that a land committee has been formed to tackle disputes, and there are plans for building a civic center and renovating the palace.

He reiterated his dedication to peace, unity, and community development, urging the public to dismiss unfounded rumors and continue their support for  traditional institutions.
