Vice President Kashim Shettima has asserted that becoming the president of Nigeria cannot be achieved through intimidation, threats, or blackmail. He emphasized that effective leadership demands inclusivity, bridge-building, and the acceptance of all Nigerians.
In his remarks regarding the political climate in Nigeria, he called for unity and constructive dialogue. He noted, “In a diverse ethnic and religious environment like ours, one cannot forcefully seize power through deceit, lies, intimidation, threats, or blackmail. Power is attained by building connections and extending outreach.”

Shettima expressed support for a presidency from the South-East to remedy historical grievances, stating, “I advocate for a South-Eastern president to help heal the wounds of the civil war. However, the strategies employed by certain misguided individuals will not lead them to success.”

Drawing from political history, he referenced Shehu Musa Yar’Adua’s approach of establishing connections across the country, highlighting his electoral victory over Lateef Jakande in Lagos, despite the latter’s challenge to compete for popularity in the streets.

He remarked that there are more qualified individuals from the South-East than Peter Obi, saying, “I believe there are individuals within the South-East who are more capable of leading this nation than Gringory.”
Shettima specifically mentioned individuals like Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha, who has strong ties to the North and speaks Hausa fluently, and who has been successful in various regions of the country. He also praised David Umahi, noting him as the most effective governor in the South-East and highlighting his significant infrastructure achievements in Ebonyi state.
