Ilorin custodial centre foils visitor’s attempts to smuggle hard drugs

The Vigilant personnel at the Ilorin Custodial Centre in Kwara State have successfully intercepted a visitor’s attempt to smuggle substances suspected to be hard drugs into the facility.

The incident occurred on Monday during routine screening at the centre, where officials detected the illicit items concealed by the visitor.

Preliminary findings show that the suspect allegedly attempted to bypass standard search procedures with the aid of unauthorized staff facilitation, raising concerns about internal compromise.

The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, has been apprehended and handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Besides, sources within the facility uncovered that, in response to the incident, internal administrative measures have been reinforced to tighten security across all entry points.

The development according to a source underscores the significant of strict adherence to operational protocols and a zero-tolerance stance on misconduct.

Management of the custodial centre has also urged all staff members to remain vigilant and uphold the highest standards of professionalism in the discharge  of their duties.
