The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially opened applications for ad-hoc staff to support the conduct of the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for June 20, 2026. The commission announced that interested and eligible Nigerians can apply through its official recruitment portal as part of preparations for the election.

INEC disclosed that recruitment is ongoing for several key electoral roles, including: Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs), Presiding Officers (POs) and Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs), Registration Area Centre (RAC) Managers RATECHs (technical support staff).
The application process began on April 25, 2026, and is expected to close on May 18, 2026. INEC urged applicants to complete their registration within the stipulated timeframe to avoid disqualification.

The commission outlined different eligibility requirements depending on the role:
Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs): Must be public or civil servants on Grade Level 10–14.
RAC Managers: Must be heads or staff of institutions hosting registration centres.
POs/APOs: Open to corps members, penultimate students with IT knowledge.
Applicants are also expected to reside in the state where they intend to serve, except for technical roles.
The recruitment exercise forms part of INEC’s broader preparations to ensure a smooth and credible electoral process in Ekiti State. The Ekiti governorship election is one of the key off-cycle elections in Nigeria’s electoral calendar and is expected to test the commission’s operational readiness ahead of the 2027 general elections.
