Datti Baba-Ahmed, the former vice-presidential candidate, has voiced skepticism regarding Peter Obi’s ability to gain support from the North in the run-up to the 2027 elections.
“I generally refrain from naming individuals or discussing everyone’s political stance at this time, but it is improbable that the North will unite behind Obi,” Datti stated decisively.

In a recent interview, he emphasized that this is merely his personal viewpoint and that he continues to have “an excellent relationship and deep respect” for significant political figures involved.

He mentioned that he advised Obi as early as January 31, 2024, about the need for strategic political partnerships. “I told him, ‘Your Excellency, you should consider approaching Rabiu Kwankwaso and Nasir El-Rufai,’” Datti revealed.

His advice was based on the importance of long-term political strategy, stating, “If you cannot plan for 2027 while in 2024, I’m afraid I cannot continue to support you.”
