The Borno State Government has announced that individuals who were once members of Boko Haram and have completed the rehabilitation and deradicalization program must take an oath on the Quran before rejoining society.

This requirement is part of the “Borno Model,” designed to ensure the commitment of these repentant individuals and to prevent any relapse into violent extremism.

During an interview with News Central Television on May 11, 2026, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Zuwaira Gambo, explained that taking the oath represents the culmination of the rehabilitation process and holds significant spiritual importance for the participants.
