The Lagos State Government has revealed plans to launch the initial phase of its major food logistics hub in Epe before the close of 2026. This initiative aims to enhance food security and modernize the agricultural value chain throughout the state.
During the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja, Abisola Olusanya, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, shared these developments.

According to Lagos Reporters, Olusanya emphasized that the administration of Babajide Sanwo-Olu is shifting from isolated agricultural efforts to a more integrated food systems approach, with goals centered on boosting local food production, enhancing storage and logistics infrastructure, and stabilizing food prices in Lagos.
The commissioner also mentioned that over 25,300 individuals, including farmers, fishers, food processors, livestock operators, market players, women, and youth, received training during the review period. This adds to the more than 100,000 beneficiaries previously trained by the ministry.

She highlighted that the Lagos Agripreneurship Programme has trained over 1,500 youths in areas such as poultry, aquaculture, crop production, and agribusiness management, providing them with mentorship and resources to help them establish commercial farming ventures.
Olusanya also disclosed that 442 secondary schools applied for the Lagos Agric Scholars Programme, with 50 selected to receive support for practical vegetable farming, while 12 top-performing schools will be awarded greenhouse facilities and agricultural inputs to promote youth involvement in agriculture.
On livestock development, the commissioner reported that the Lagos State Butchers Academy has trained 20 youths, equipping them with containerized meat shops to enhance hygiene standards and modernize the meat value chain in the state. She further noted that Governor Sanwo-Olu has approved training for an additional 40 youths and the provision of 10 more meat shops to expand this initiative.
