Tinubu won’t rush in from Abuja to address Oyo’s security issues — Fayose

Ayo Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State, has expressed his concerns to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde regarding the increasing insecurity in the region.

Fayose argued that it is crucial for local leaders to tackle security issues on their own before appealing for help from President Bola Tinubu.

His remarks came in response to recent kidnapping incidents in Oyo State.

He stated: “I stand by my comments about Governor Makinde. Before you think about reaching Abuja, you should be addressing problems at the local and state levels first.”

“The Oyo Governor can’t claim he isn’t receiving his share of allocations, and no sitting governor has gone without facing problems related to kidnappings or security.”

“The initial responsibility lies with local governments to communicate these issues to the governor. No president will come rushing in from Abuja to fix your state’s problems; it’s the governor’s job to take action, and only when it’s beyond his control should he ask for federal assistance.

“The first question I feel we should ask is that as a governor, did Makinde contact or escalate this problem to the President at all? Yes it’s in the public domain but if you need help you have to call in the available.”

“On the issue of kidnapping, no President will wish his citizens to be kidnapped and it’s not today that abduction started in Nigeria. It’s from kidnapping that they killed Igboho’s mother.”

“I was a governor too and I handled security issues very well. I used my security votes very well.”
