The intervention, announced on Tuesday by presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, will be implemented by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) and coordinated through a newly established Presidential Task Force chaired by Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila.
The funding is aimed at reinforcing national health security systems, improving rapid response capacity, and supporting critical public health emergency operations across the country.
The move comes amid growing concerns over Ebola outbreaks in Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, prompting Nigerian authorities to intensify preventive measures nationwide.

As part of the response, the Federal Government has directed increased surveillance at all entry points, particularly international airports in Lagos and Abuja, with enhanced passenger screening, temperature checks, and mandatory health declaration protocols for inbound travellers. Isolation centres have also been activated at key airports, while routine disinfection of airport facilities, cargo zones, and baggage areas has been mandated.
Key agencies, including the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Nigeria Immigration Service, and Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, will work alongside state governments and other federal ministries to enforce the measures.
The Presidential Task Force has also been mandated to coordinate with security, aviation, and diplomatic agencies to regulate flights from affected regions and designate specific terminals for high-risk arrivals, as Nigeria moves to prevent the importation and spread of the virus.
