The Borno State Government has reintegrated 720 former insurgents into society after they completed a rehabilitation program focused on deradicalization and reintegration.
These individuals, classified as low-risk participants and comprising Batch 9 of the initiative, were officially sworn in and released to return to their communities throughout Borno State.

Brig. Gen. Ishaq Abdullahi (retd.), the Special Adviser on Security to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, stated that this event represents another achievement in the stateβs non-military approach to addressing insurgency in the North-East.

He highlighted that the program, which started in July 2021 under Governor Zulum, has seen considerable participation from former fighters who surrendered to security forces in pursuit of peace.

With the inclusion of this latest group, the total number of individuals reintegrated has reached 9,680, including spouses and children of former insurgents.
Abdullahi noted that the rehabilitation process involved structured activities such as Islamic education, counseling, hygiene training, drug awareness, and vocational skills like carpentry, tailoring, metalwork, phone repair, and solar installation.
The state government also provided starter packs to aid their transition back into civilian life, with community leaders and security personnel screening the participants before their approval.
