Keyamo urges Peter Obi to apologize to airport staff, pay N25,000 fine, or face action from FAAN

Following Peter Obi’s accusations of government persecution and harassment by airport officials, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, responded by alleging that Obi violated parking regulations at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

In a statement issued on the evening of July 10, Keyamo explained that he had reviewed the incident using the airport’s 24-hour CCTV surveillance. He noted that on July 4, 2026, at 8:28 p.m., Obi arrived at the airport in a vehicle driven by a police officer.

After Obi and two others exited the car and entered the terminal, the police driver parked in a drop-off area, nearly obstructing the entrance, and left the vehicle unattended, breaching airport parking rules.

Keyamo detailed that airport regulations require drivers to remain with their vehicles in the drop-off zone, as unattended cars present security risks. He pointed out that the police driver briefly returned to the vehicle at 8:32 p.m. to collect an item but left it unattended again.

Subsequently, airport security clamped the vehicle’s tires, unaware that it belonged to Obi, as no one was inside.

Keyamo alleged that the driver informed Obi, who then identified himself to the airport manager and had the vehicle released without paying the required fine.

He claimed the issue was resolved, but Obi chose to publicly share a misleading narrative for political gain. As a result, Keyamo insisted that Obi must either apologize to airport staff, pay the N25,000 fine, or face penalties from FAAN if he does not comply within a week.
