Daniel Bwala, a prominent political figure, has publicly challenged the legitimacy of Peter Obi’s presidential candidacy, asserting that the former governor never participated in a primary election.
Bwala’s comments came in response to a recent interview where Obi set a condition for debating the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi. Speaking with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Obi stated he would only debate Umahi if the minister first secured a presidential nomination from a political party.

This statement was a direct reply to Umahi’s earlier challenge to debate Obi on the topic of road infrastructure development.
In a post on the social media platform X, Bwala questioned the basis of Obi’s own candidacy, implying he did not follow the standard democratic process.
“Peter Obi is telling Chude on his podcast that if H.E. Dave Umahi wants to debate him, he should first qualify as a presidential candidate,” Bwala wrote. “Funny; how did Peter Obi qualify to be a presidential candidate? Did he participate in any presidential primaries?”

Bwala continued his critique, highlighting what he sees as a contradiction in Obi’s stance. “In fact, has he ever participated in any presidential primaries? Imagine a ‘miracle centre’ presidential candidate questioning a successful governor and performing minister on qualifications,” he added.
