Nigerian govt can’t address every social issue facing our country — House of Rep Speaker

Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, emphasized that Nigeria’s escalating social and economic issues cannot be resolved solely by the government. He highlighted the importance of stronger partnerships with faith-based organizations, the private sector, and civil society.

Speaking through Festus Adefiranye, the Chairman of the House Committee on Christian Pilgrims, during the launch of the KSM Endowment Fund and Charity Initiative in Abuja, Abbas commended the Knights of St. Mulumba for creating an endowment fund to support humanitarian work.

He remarked, “The government cannot handle every social challenge our nation faces by itself. Lasting national development requires a sincere collaboration between public institutions, faith-based groups, the private sector, and civil society.”

Abbas referred to the initiative as an example of responsible stewardship.

The Speaker further urged Nigerians to embrace religious tolerance and national unity, stressing that “our diversity should continue to inspire mutual respect rather than division, dialogue rather than hostility, and cooperation rather than conflict.”

He reaffirmed the House of Representatives’ commitment to protecting religious freedom and rejecting all forms of religious intolerance, extremism and persecution.
