A coalition of rights activists has thrown its weight behind the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, expressing confidence in his leadership and professionalism amid the controversy surrounding a high-profile double murder case.
The delegation visited the Zone 2 Police Headquarters in Lagos to demonstrate solidarity with the senior police officer, insisting that anyone dissatisfied with the ongoing case should seek legal redress rather than wage campaigns on social media.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Declan Ihakaire described the visit as a vote of confidence in Jimoh’s leadership, arguing that the online attacks against the police chief were inconsistent with his experience during Jimoh’s tenure as Lagos State Commissioner of Police.

“As long as the current AIG is doing what is right and lawful, we are solidly behind him. But if tomorrow he decides to act otherwise, we will challenge him. For now, we stand by him, and anyone dissatisfied should seek redress in court instead of maligning him,” Ihakaire said.

Other members of the delegation, including Olatunde Owoeye Wise, Efe Brume, Elijah Ajanu, and legal practitioner Akintunde Adedeji, also appealed for restraint in public commentary.

They urged individuals and content creators to avoid prejudicing matters already before the courts, stressing that grievances against police officers should be pursued through lawful channels rather than social media campaigns.
The group further called on the Nigeria Police Force to address internal information leaks, warning that such practices undermine public confidence and discourage citizens from cooperating with law enforcement agencies.
Jimoh Says Investigation Faced Pressure
Responding to the delegation, AIG Jimoh thanked the activists for their support and reiterated that justice must be allowed to take its course.
He disclosed that the controversy relates to investigations into two murder cases dating back to 2023 and 2024, explaining that he became involved after the Inspector General of Police forwarded a petition from the victims’ family.

Jimoh revealed that the investigation led to the arrest of two suspects whose statements implicated another suspect, Ahmed Tajudeen Akanbi, who was later declared wanted, arrested abroad with the assistance of Interpol, and returned to Nigeria to face trial.
The AIG also disclosed that he came under intense pressure during the investigation, including alleged attempts to influence him through offers of bribes and personal connections, all of which he rejected.
