At the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, U.S. President Donald Trump entertained guests by joking about running for a “third term,” despite the constitutional limit of two terms for presidents.

During his remarks at the annual event in Washington on Friday, he made light of journalists and political opponents before announcing, “To show just how much I care about the press and I want to save your ratings, I’m pleased to announce my intention to, and this is somewhat of a scoop, my intention to run for a fourth term as president of the United States.”

He then donned a red “Trump 2028” cap, eliciting laughter from the audience.

Although the Constitution prohibits anyone from serving more than two terms, the comment was well-received.

This event, celebrating press freedom, was rescheduled after being postponed due to an alleged assassination attempt on the president, marking Trump’s first attendance at the dinner—a gathering he had previously missed throughout his political career.

In his speech, Trump blended humor with critiques of what he labeled as “fake news media,” making light-hearted remarks aimed at the reporters present.

Addressing the journalists, he joked, “I know it was not easy finding shoes to go along with your bulletproof vest, which many people didn’t want to wear because they’d rather die than look 20 pounds heavier.”
